Innovation with impact

At Roularta Media Group, innovation does not start with technology. It starts with people.

With readers looking for reliable information. With viewers and listeners looking for stories. With communities coming together around strong brands. And with editorial teams, creators and colleagues who work every day to make content more relevant, accessible and impactful.

AI and technology play an important role in this. They support our teams, accelerate insights and help us respond more effectively to the needs of our communities. But the core remains unchanged: strong content, journalistic quality and brands that earn trust.

For us, innovation is not about choosing between technology and journalism. It emerges precisely where the two reinforce each other. That is why we invest in people, brands and technology at the same time, so that each of these three elements strengthens the others.

That is innovation with impact. That is media with impact.

AI and high-quality content

For Roularta Media Group, AI is not an end in itself, but a lever to continuously improve our journalism, content and audience experience. Technology supports our editorial teams, accelerates workflows and creates new opportunities for readers, viewers, listeners and advertisers. But the foundation always remains the same: quality, reliability and human expertise.

AI in editorial teams

Based on a clear AI charter, we define not only what we do, but also what we consciously choose not to do. We do not create texts without editorial added value, and we do not use AI to manipulate photos of people.

The identity of each brand also remains a guiding principle. What fits one editorial context does not automatically fit another. For a brand such as Libelle, where authenticity and recognisability are central, we approach visual creation differently than in a brand context where innovation and visual experimentation are more prominent.

This is how we protect the credibility of our journalism and the trust of our readers.

AI as added value for readers

AI only creates real value when it makes our content more accessible, relevant and useful. That is why we develop and implement smart AI tools within our brands, such as Maia — My Artificial Intelligence Assistant — at Libelle Lekker.

We also apply AI to our own high-quality content databases. This content has been built, tested and validated over many years by our editorial teams. As a result, we combine the power of AI with reliable journalistic expertise. A strong example is the Knack Weekend Dine Guide, which adds an intelligent AI layer to the complete restaurant archive of Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend. Carefully built editorial content thus becomes easier to find and more practically useful for readers.

AI does not replace the quality of our brands. It helps us bring that quality even more effectively to our communities.

Mijn Magazines

Mijn Magazines is the digital platform where the strength of our brands comes together. It gives readers access to a rich multimedia offering of magazines, podcasts, videos and exclusive digital applications.

We also use Mijn Magazines to develop new forms of digital reading and listening experiences. Through additional functionalities, we respond to the interests of our readers and create extra value on top of our existing content.

One example is the possibility to read digital comics, in partnership with strips.be by Standaard Uitgeverij.

With Mijn Magazines, we strengthen the digital connection between our brands and their readers: accessible, relevant and always close at hand.

“In a media sector that is evolving at lightning speed, innovation is a must. It is a way of thinking, but also a long-term strategy. This is the only way for media to remain relevant for readers, advertisers and partners, today and tomorrow.”

Smart production

Innovation also takes tangible shape in our printing operations. At Roularta Printing, the printing facility of Roularta Media Group, we invest in smart production technology that strengthens efficiency, quality and sustainability.

Automatic robotic arms take over heavy, repetitive work, while self-driving forklifts, or AGVs, autonomously move finished printed products to the dispatch zone. We also continue to innovate in printing and finishing technology, including an energy-efficient MAN Lithoman IV 72 magazine printing press and automated packaging lines.

Sustainability is a clear priority in this process. With a paperwrap installation, Roularta Printing packages printed products in paper wraps instead of plastic film. Thanks to its own 3D printer, spare parts can also be produced faster and made to measure, making production more flexible and sustainable.

In this way, we combine industrial innovation with a sustainable production environment that is ready for the future.
